How do I start an online business?

You would already have a business idea or are already selling goods or services in the real world. To sell on the internet, you will need to have an internet connection and a piece of software called a shopping-cart which allows customers to pick items, place them in a 'cart' or 'basket' and pay for it at the 'checkout'. Inetvendor is a hosted ecommerce shopping-cart software that enables you to conduct Ecommerce activities on the internet. You do not need to install any software on your computer or understand any programming because the software is hosted and runs on our servers. You will also need to capture some images of your products to display on your store, so having access to a digital camera and imaging software is essential.

 

Do I need a website?

Visitors will need to know where you are on the internet in order to visit you. Athough it is not strictly neccessary to have a website, it would however be a convenient place for you to publish items that would be of interest to visitors. Buying items from your store might just be one of the many services you provide, so a website could be a good place to direct your visitors to other areas, including your store. Inetvendor provides some areas where you can write about your business, delivery terms etc., which might be sufficient for some users. But for those who have more information to publish, a website is recommended. When you subscribe to Inetvendor, you automatically get FREE webhosting space for your website. Do I need to register a domain name?

When you register a domain name, for example mydomain.co.uk, you can direct your visitors to that address. Domain names are akin to street addresses in the real world and it is something that you would want to include in all your stationery and documents. It can be a memorable name that visitors can type easily into their internet browser. It is therefore recommended that you register a domain name. How do visitors get to my online store?

Inetvendor will provide you with a link to your store. This link can be copied and pasted into a webpage on your website. When a visitor clicks on this link, they will be taken to your store. The link or URL as it it sometimes called, can also be typed directly into the browser. You can also 'mask' the address line by displaying your store in a frame.

 

How much does it cost to use Invetvendor?

Inetvendor costs £10 per month by subscription or £100 per year. You make a saving of £20 if you pay your fees in advance.

 

Is there a minimun contract period?

No. There is no contract or minimum period.

 

How do I cancel my membership subscription?

You can cancel your subscription by clicking a link in your tools panel or by going directly to the PayPal site and cancel your subscription there.

 

Can I sell digital products like music for downloading?

You cannot sell digital products for downloading at present. However, this service will be offered in the very near future.

 

How many items can I sell?

You can sell up to 100 items.

 

How will I know if I have sold something?

You will receive a notification email if you have made a sale. All orders and their status will also be listed on your tools panel.

 

How do I get paid?

When you sign up at Inetvendor, you will also be asked to sign up to PayPal who will process your payments. You will be able to accept debit/credit card payments which makes it convenient for you and your customers. Find out more about how Inetvendor payment processing works by going to PayPal.

 

Do I need to install any software or have programming skills?

No. You don not need to install any software or plugins. However, a basic understanding of HTML would be useful.

 

Can I give refunds to my customers?

Yes. Payments and refunds are all handled by PayPal

 

How soon after sign-up can I start selling?
